E-mail Conversation Between Myself and A Nice Person in the HR Department Who Helped Me Figure Out How To Correct A Mistake (or, going around in circles via email)
  • Me:

My SSN on my W-2 is wrong. I'm not sure if it is a typo in printing or recording, but I need help making sure that some strange dude doesn't get confused with a larger Tax return than he expected. Is there anything I need to do?

  • Them:

Try to change it in the ESS system. In the meantime I will contact [HQ] and ask to have it corrected. You should get a revised W-2. I will let you know as soon as I have it straightened out. Thanks for letting me know!

  • Me:

I can't find the place on ESS to change my social. I clicked on "Myself" and there isn't a field to input my SSN. Help me please.

  • Them:

Payroll in [HQ] is working on this with ADP. I requested a correction to your SS# and that should be done in the ADP system soon. I apologize for this and I will see if [HQ] has an update. Thanks.

  • Me:

Awesome! Thanks so much. You rock.

  • Them:

The SS# change was made, but I have not heard back from [HQ] about progress on the new W-2. I am staying in touch with them. Thanks.

  • Them (again):

Update: [HQ] says this was mailed out to you last week. You should be getting it any day. Also, try checking ESS to see if it was corrected there. Thanks.

  • Me (11 days later):

I haven't gotten the new W-2 yet and I'm still not able to find where I see what my SSN is on ESS (I'm at http://portal.adp.com/). I did look at my W-2 there and it still shows an incorrect SSN.

  • Them:

You have not changed your address have you? If so, did you make the change in ESS? I was assured this was mailed to you 1½ to 2 weeks ago. You should have it by now. I know that there correction to your SS# was made in ADP. It may not show in ESS. I will see if the W-2 came back to [HQ]. Thanks.

  • Me:

When I go to http://erc.enwisen.com/ and click on ESS it takes me to https://portal.adp.com. Is this the correct place to find my SSN? I just haven't been able to locate it anywhere. My address on https://portal.adp.com Is correct, is this ESS?

  • Them:

No, just type in www.portal.adp.com and you will get to ESS. [Note: this is where I already am]

  • Me:

I'm there now and I'm not seeing where my SSN is listed for me to check. It is incorrect on my W-2 that is listed there.

  • Them:

It may not be available there. I checked the payroll system, and it is now correct. I have asked [someone from HQ] to respond to you since that is where the W-2 comes from. Thanks.
