The Sun Stops Shining
We’re reading through The Jesus Storybook Bible as a family and I just got done reading the crucifixion and resurrection story to the girls. It was the first time we’ve read it out of that book and it felt like the first time I heard it. I wept while I read these lines;
“If you were really the Son of God, you could just climb down off that cross! they said.
And of course they were right. Jesus could have just climbed down. Actually, he could have just said a word and made it all stop. Like when he healed that little girl. And stilled the storm. And fed 5,000 people.
But Jesus stayed.
You see, they didn’t understand. It wasn’t nails that kept Jesus there. It was love.
It has been an emotional day. We learned what is happening to the church in Haiti and that wreaked havoc on my heart, and I didn’t like that. Now, I’m hearing, for what seems like the first time, about Jesus’ love for us. And that is wreaking havoc on my heart.
But, the next story is called “God’s wonderful surprise.” And it is the hope that we have.
