Heidi painted this last night. She always amazes me. I just want a better camera to capture her art.
Jesus Story Book Bible time.
When Eve should be asleep but has gotten out of bed:
“I need to go pott… I had a scary dream.”
It’s funny to Heidi and me, but it’s such a blatant lie. How often I lie to God like that is scarry.
Heidi went in to tuck Dotty in after something woke her up and this conversation happened;
- Eve: you guys watching West Wing?
- Heidi: Yes
- Eve: I hear the music. I enjoying it!
Prayer for my wife
Heidi just got a call from the doctor’s office. She has a bacterial infection, which isn’t communicable, it is easily treatable, but it does pretty much knock her out for a few weeks due to losing a lot of blood.
So pray that the medicine will take effect quickly as we’re all pretty tired and irritable. It is especially rough on the girls who are having to learn to share Mommy with Jane and not getting to spend time with her otherwise since she has to rest.
Headin’ Home
We got here at 9:00PM Thursday night. Jane was born at 2:30AM Friday morning. Everything from then has been a blur of sleep, fuzzy people coming in to check on Heidi and Jane, and lots of family coming and bringing food. Now, it is almost 9AM Saturday morning and we’re heading home.
It will be nice to sleep in our own bed.
It will be nice to shower in our own shower.
It will be nice to play with my two girls that didn’t get to spend time with us here.
It will be nice to take care of Heidi and Jane in a much more comfortable environment.
That is some real ‘tude.
Who is God Putting Into Our Life?
Lately Heidi and I have been praying that we would step outside our comfort zone, meet new people (either at church or in the neighborhood) and get to know them through meals and the like. The last few weeks at church Heidi and I have been approached by newcomers (yes, they came up to us, even though it should be the other way around). These are people that are also new to the area and in a similar life stage as ourselves; young, mulitpile children, etc. Each of them have expressed a desire to get plugged into community and that is what brought them to Mars Hill.
Each time, I tell them about The City and how it’s a great tool to connect and find a community they can get plugged into. But, today, as we were loading the girls up to come home Heidi mentioned that each time we didn’t get those people’s contact information so we could invite them over to our house, or help them as the navagate their way through the many options of finding a community. God answered our prayer by ploping three families in our laps and we missed a great opportunity to connect with them in a real manner. Sure, we had a great conversation, and will probably see them next week at church, but what we should have done was get their email or phone number and asked them over to dinner.
You can pray that, probably after Jane comes, we will set a night each week to leave open for new friends. That way, when we meet someone on Sunday we can instantly say, “We’d love to have you guys over on Wednesday. Bring the kids!”
That’s part of our action plan to build community, what do you and yours do, or what do you and yours need to change so you can have an open and inviting home?
Walkin’ to Labor
Yesterday Heidi asked if we could go for a walk in hopes that it would cause her to go into labor. We got less than a block away, and sure enough, the contractions started. We walked about a block more and Heidi asked if we could turn home, not because the contractions were just too much, but because the baby was just causing too much other pain. We finished the loop around the block and got home and the contractions stopped.
This morning Heidi wants to try again. So we are going to drive down to the Burke-Gilman trail and grab some hot chocolate for the girls and see if we can make it more than a few hundred feet.
We’re not sure what we’re going to do the rest of the day, but you can bet it will include multiple short walks either around the neighborhood, down some trail, around the mall or U Village, or heading to another neighborhood like Fremont.
Time to watch some X-Files. I wonder if Mulder will die again tonight? Don’t ruin it for me, I’m on the West Coast.
