I had a thought in the shower the other morning, which is where a lot of my silly thoughts happen. Is SEO dying? I mean, if you look at the use of social networking over the last few years, it seems like most people are increasingly likely to go to either their Facebook or Twitter friends when they have a question or need a service. When you go to Google for a search, it seems to be increasingly difficult to find quality answers.
In a world where everyone is shouting, it’s difficult to find the person you’re really looking for. This is what seems to be going on with SEO. Everyone uses the best and newest tactics to make sure the search engines see them, therefore it’s hard to find the valuable sites or services.
If SEO is becoming more and more useless, how do you make sure people find you?
Make something unique. Make something good. Have amazing customer service. And, most importantly, tell your friends. Oh yeah, and be human.
You already have a network of people that can either use your product or service, or, they more than likely know someone that can use your product or service. I will recommend my friends over a stranger. I will go to them for suggestions before consulting Google. Instead of worrying about optimizing for search engines, optimize for social networks.
The thing is, even if I’m wrong and SEO isn’t dead or dying, making a good, unique, kick-ass product is still in your best interest. Silver fish hand catch.
